Jonathan Rands was the winner of the Primary Election in August. Ballots for the General Election will be mailed October 19. Please be sure to VOTE by November 8.
“It’s very rare in today’s political climate for a candidate – even a highly qualified candidate – to earn the support of both Republicans and Democrats. It speaks volumes about Jonathan Rands that he has earned bi-partisan support for his election as a District Court judge. He will be a great judge for everyone in Whatcom County, and I urge you to vote for him as I have.”
Thank you for your interest in my campaign for Whatcom County District Court Judge. Voting for judges is really hard for most people, and those who are not lawyers find it difficult to get enough information to decide. I hope that by reading about my background and experience, and seeing the names of judges, lawyers, community leaders, and some of your friends and neighbors here on my website, you’ll join them in casting your vote for me in November.
District Courts touch the lives of people in communities like those in Whatcom County every day. It’s in these courts where traffic matters, more serious criminal cases like alcohol and drug offenses and Domestic Violence, as well as civil matters like auto accidents and small claims are heard and resolved. Each of these cases is important to the people involved and deserves to be handled with fairness, compassion, and strong legal knowledge by an experienced judge.
I believe that the District Court should have judges who are the best the legal profession has to offer. Our judges need to be hard-working, fair, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and experienced — but also willing to engage in creative problem-solving within the rule of law.
I believe I can and will be that kind of judge.
During my 20-year career, I have regularly represented people in 5 different counties – 20 different courts – and tried well over 200 cases to verdict. The high quality of my legal work is a point of pride for me, but so is my involvement in the community. For decades, my wife Janise and I have raised our family, run a small business, and contributed our time and resources to make this a great place to live, work, and go to school.
I’m ready to serve Whatcom County as your District Court Judge. I’ll be listening to people all over the county from now until November. I hope to learn a lot about what’s important to you.
